Bifidobacterium longum BB536 is the Gut Guardian among our strains, and the one with the longest track record. It was first isolated in 1969 and has been studied ever since.
You can have B. longum BB536 in any of our four A2 yogurts, made fresh to order and delivered across the Klang Valley.
What is B. longum BB536?
Bifidobacteria are among the first bacteria to settle in a baby's gut, and they remain an important part of a healthy adult microbiome. Their numbers tend to fall with age.
BB536 is a strain of Bifidobacterium longum originally isolated from a healthy infant in Japan. It has been used in foods and supplements around the world for decades, which gives it one of the longest safety records of any probiotic strain.
What the research suggests
BB536 has been studied for digestion, immunity and seasonal allergies:
- Children in Malaysia. In a study of Malaysian preschool children, those taking BB536 had sore throats that lasted 46% shorter than those who did not. They also had more Faecalibacterium in their gut, a bacterium often described as the gut's peacekeeper because of its links to lower inflammation.
- Seasonal allergies. Studies in Japan have looked at BB536 during pollen season, with some reporting milder symptoms.
- Regularity. BB536 has also been studied for bowel regularity, including in older adults.
Results from one group, such as children, do not automatically apply to adults. These studies explain why BB536 is popular, not a guarantee of what it will do for you.
What people notice
People who choose BB536 usually want a calmer stomach and fewer days feeling run down. Its reputation is for steady, everyday support rather than dramatic change.
Is it right for you?
BB536 is a good fit if immunity and a settled stomach are what you care about most. Our yogurt is not suitable for children. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a weakened immune system or a medical condition, check with your doctor first.
