Bacillus subtilis HU58™ is the digestive helper among our strains. It works differently from the lactic acid bacteria in most yogurt, because it is a spore former.

You can have B. subtilis HU58™ in any of our four A2 yogurts, made fresh to order and delivered across the Klang Valley.

What is Bacillus subtilis?

B. subtilis is a bacterium found in soil, on plants and in the human gut. People have eaten it for centuries: it is the bacterium that ferments natto, the Japanese soybean dish.

HU58™ is a specific strain that was originally isolated from the human gut.

Why spores matter

When conditions are harsh, B. subtilis forms a spore: a dormant cell inside a tough protective coat. Spores can survive heat, dryness and stomach acid, which kill many other probiotics before they reach the intestine. Once a spore reaches the gut, it can wake up and become active again.

What it does

The last stage of digestion, after food leaves the stomach, depends mostly on enzymes from the pancreas. B. subtilis is known for producing digestive enzymes of its own, including:

  • amylase, which breaks down starches
  • protease, which breaks down proteins
  • lipase, which breaks down fats

That is why people choose it to support digestion after meals.

What its developers report

The makers of HU58™ report:

  • 100% survival through the digestive tract
  • a 40% increase in short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production, the compounds gut bacteria make that feed the cells lining the colon
  • support for healthy digestion and immune function

These figures come from the strain's developers rather than independent reviews.

Is it right for you?

HU58™ is a good fit if heaviness or discomfort after meals is your main concern. Our yogurt is not suitable for children. If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, have a weakened immune system or a medical condition, check with your doctor first.

How to order your HU58™ yogurt

When you choose B. subtilis HU58™, we ferment it into your yogurt slowly for 36 hours in A2 milk, with nothing else added: no sugar, gums, thickeners or preservatives. Start with a 100g jar to try it, or choose 450g or 900g if you are making it a daily habit.
